As we approach the end of 2023, the country finds itself deeply divided, both socially and politically. Instead of being a platform for capable leadership, politics has become a playground for flawed human beings, resulting in an atmosphere of irrationality that seems to have gripped the nation. This unsettling climate has particularly affected the productive and academic sectors, including a small but once-prosperous municipality. This community now suffers from constant setbacks, such as foreign exchange evasion through purchases and the complete ignorance of public economic principles by pseudo-leaders entrenched in government offices. These elected officials impose a new order with an imperialist undertone, creating a stark contrast to the citizens who tirelessly strive to uphold their rights and responsibilities.
These hardworking citizens, unwilling to align themselves with the ideological activism of the ruling class, endure relentless persecution. They face scorn and suppression simply for refusing to applaud the excesses and falsehoods propagated to the most loyal residents of the land. A smokescreen of distractions has been erected, allowing these leaders to perpetuate their wrongdoings unchecked.
History itself has been subjected to manipulation and cruelty, with the normal course of events forcibly altered. Disinformation has taken center stage, distorting facts to the point where streets have been renamed, the city’s political emancipation date has been falsified, and erroneous narratives have been disseminated to serve the political interests of the ruling elite. Streets that once bore the names of historical figures who shaped the city have been renamed to honor neophytes hailed as false heroes. Misinformation has taken root, becoming a pervasive and enduring plague.
These governments, aptly described as incompetent or kleptocratic, paint a bleak and frightening picture, as if we have regressed to a bygone era when intellectual growth mirrored humanity's limited lifespan. We are inundated with shallow content and vulgar discourse, revealing the eschatological abyss into which we have descended.
In this atmosphere of barbarism, anything goes. The city’s birthday is celebrated on a fabricated date, and celebrations are intentionally restricted from areas where perceived adversaries conduct their business. The rulers indulge in unscrupulous behavior devoid of merit or accomplishment, leaving no joy or pride for the citizens who contribute to the city’s development.
Smokescreen – A Cruel Underworld! is the backdrop against which this drama unfolds. Once the heart of a vibrant and promising metropolis, the city's youth have lost their way. References and values have eroded, leaving them to wander like zombies, subsisting on crumbs as though they were less than human. Meanwhile, third-rate politicians commonly labeled as “leaders” brazenly manipulate education with declassified and destructive agendas, further degrading the quality of life for future citizens. Stripped of their right to think critically and defend themselves, these individuals become victims of a patriarchal political system that thrives on control and suppression.
This outdated and regressive approach to governance propels society toward a singular, inevitable abyss, where the so-called “powerful” will one day witness their misfortunes and disasters.
The dissatisfaction of these so-called “elected officials” with the land of cocoa has reached such an extreme that buildings from the era of the colonels are being torn down, and replaced with empty promises of reconstruction. As historic landmarks crumble into oblivion, the landscape becomes increasingly bleak, marred by potential collapses and landslides. Similarly, public assets are sold in secrecy, without the consent or knowledge of their rightful owners the people. This reflects a fundamental failure in public administration, born of a lack of academic preparation and competence. This anomaly has allowed functionally illiterate people who know little yet believe they know everything to assume positions of power.
They are blind, mute, and deaf to the responsibilities of governance, filling parliamentary seats with their ineptitude.
The once-vibrant metropolis has descended into a miniature Sodom, where darkness prevails, and the youth are trapped in an eternal struggle between light and shadow.
Smokescreen – A Cruel Underworld! is, above all, a work of fiction. Any resemblance to real-life events or individuals is purely coincidental.
