A series of suicide attacks against the United States coordinated by the Islamic fundamentalist al-Qaeda organization took place on this fateful day where nineteen terrorists hijacked four commercial passenger planes.
That morning, at 8:46 am, the first commercial plane hijacked by Al Qaeda hit one of the World Trade Center (WTC) Towers in New York.
The hijackers intentionally bumped two of the planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center complex in New York City, killing everyone on board and many of the people working on the buildings.
Both buildings collapsed two hours after the impacts, destroying neighboring buildings and causing several other damages.
The third passenger plane crashed into the Pentagon, the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, in Arlington County, Virginia, just outside Washington, D.C.
The fourth plane crashed in an open field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after some of its passengers and crew attempted to regain control of the hijackers' aircraft, which had sent her to the US capital.
There were no survivors on any of the flights.
Nearly 3,000 people died during the attacks, including the 227 civilians and 19 hijackers aboard the aircraft. The overwhelming majority of the victims were civilians, including citizens from more than 70 countries.
By 9 am, television channels around the world were already broadcasting the attacks live.
In Pirassununga, a medium-sized city in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, in a room in front of the Foguel family's home in a cardboard box, while thousands of people were crying the attacks that were taking place in the United States, a cat, named Kitana, gave birth to six beautiful kittens, full of life and joy!
